China is the second largest market for Superchargers after the United States. Tesla operates nearly 2,200 sites in the country with over 12,350 stalls as of January 2025. Superchargers are also available in the special administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macau.[28]

What's new: China's market regulator has approved a joint venture between subsidiaries of German automakers Mercedes-Benz Group AG and BMW AG that will work on building a rapid charging network in the world's largest electric vehicle (EV) market. 

The joint venture will be set up by Mercedes-Benz Group China Ltd. and BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd., according to a statement published Sunday by the State Administration for Market Regulation.

BMW, Mercedes to Set Up JV to Operate EV Charging Network in China

What's new: German automakers BMW AG and Mercedes-Benz Group AG said Thursday that they have signed an agreement to establish a joint venture for operating a fast-charging network for electric vehicles (EVs) in China.

The joint venture expects to install at least 1,000 high-power charging stations with around 7,000 charging piles in China by the end of 2026, the companies said in the statement. The fast-charging stations will be open to all other EV brands in addition to BMW's and Mercedes-Benz's users in the country.

Tesla Opens More Charging Facilities to Competitors in China
What's new: Tesla Inc. is extending access to its electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure to other brands, enabling more owners of non-Tesla vehicles to utilize its charging stations on the Chinese mainland.

The U.S. carmaker said Tuesday it has made over 260 destination charging stations and more than 350 supercharging stations in the country available to EV models produced by rivals.

Tesla Opens Some of Its China Charging Stations to Competing EV Models

Tesla Inc. has opened a portion of its electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure on the Chinese mainland to other brands as its competitors race to build up their own networks.
The U.S. carmaker has made 10 supercharging stations in Beijing and Shanghai, as well as 120 destination charging stations in the country, available to 37 EV models produced by its competitors, Tesla said in a Tuesday statement.
