As there seems to be a dearth of any new info on the I-Pace at the moment I thought I would share this.

I have recently spoken to a friend that has sat in and been driven around in the I-Pace – similar to the many press runs recently. I thought his "day out" would be released as one of the user videos so held back saying anything – but as that doesn't seem to be the case I thought I would share it with you.

The first thing to say is I find it amazing that having spent a day at JLR with all the I-Pace technical people he didn't find out anything really new that's not already in the public domain – obviously apart from his impressions of the car. Which I find amazing and a bit frustrating.

This person isn't really interested in SUV's & Crossovers and is much more a sports car kind of person – so he was rather underwhelmed by the size and height of the I-Pace (obviously) – but knowing that my I-Pace was replacing an Evoque, a Merc SL and a motorbike he thought it would suit me down to the ground. His wife has a Discovery Sport which he said the interior felt on a par with size wise. The one thing he liked was that the car didn't feel too wide. There was much more rear leg room than the DS – but he felt there had to be as there didn't appear to be any space under the front seats for feet for some reason. He didn't get to see the size of the boot (because it was full of equipment) but he has 2 large dogs and he didn't seem to think there would be a problem with fitting them in.

His ride out in the car was on freshly laid snow and he said he was surprised that the drivers didn't hold back at all. He said the car drove as if it was on rails – he doubting that they had put on winter tyres as the snowfall was unexpected – but he couldn't be sure. The car felt very sure footed, quiet and cosseting .......& very fast.

One of the areas both he and I were concerned about was the interior of the I-Pace as we are not fans of the current Jaguar "German-a-like" interiors. Whilst it was covered up the bits he saw he said it looked OK but he wasn't blown away. Maybe there will be some material combinations that will be more Jaguar like – but these were not discussed.

The one thing he kept saying was how solid the car felt, he said it was a weird impression to come away with but that was one of the most overwhelming impressions of the car. Rock solid. That and the enthusiasm of everybody involved on the car – nobody he meet was "just doing their job" he felt everyone had a real passion for the project which he felt very reassured by and pervaded the whole day..

One thing he did ask and I hope I'm interpreting the answer he got correctly is "what is the cars range"........ the answer went something like this......

"This is a Jaguar, no one is going to buy a Jaguar and drive it around like Miss Daisy – those keen drivers will get at least 220 miles range, those who do drive more sedately will see 300 plus miles – we know that's a big spread of range but how you drive this car determines very much what range you get – we see a lot of F-Type (and performance car) owners coming to this car and they will push the performance envelope hard and we don't want them to be disappointed with the range, we want people to have a realist expectation hence the over 220miles figure".

As I say, I hope I've interpreted that correctly – so it will be interesting to see what the final EPA rating is.

The only other new info I've found on the I-Pace recently is this tweet.

Showing a UK car (RHD) – mirrors folded, being charged.

Looks like the Photon Red will be a "Signature" colour – not keen myself, I much prefer the original LA colour whatever that is called.

Har sett på Facebook at noen har fått bestilt HUD som option til HSE for 5000 kroner. Dette er etter min mening det eneste viktige som HSE mangler i forhold til FE og høres ut som en bra deal! Noen som kan bekrefte at dette er offisiell Jaguar-politikk?

Sendte epost til forhandler og spurte, men ikke fått svar enda.  Tror de har veldig mye å gjøre, så jeg venter et par dager med å ringe og purre.

HUD var det eneste jeg savnet på HSE også.

Hud 5000? på HSE, gratis på FE
HSE er en del billigere, men om utstyret over er ønskelig, så er det bra value for money.
Og så har vi jo det beste da:

Jeg betalte ikke noe for svart taktrekk på HSE, mulig det er annen variant, men uansett er bilen min spesifisert med sort taktrekk i kontrakten, og dette er ikke inne i prisen.

Fikk bekreftet at det er åpnet for Headup display nå selv om jeg har HSE.

Stikkkontakt

Taktrekket er av en slags alcantaralignende stoff på FE.
Viktig også med høyere skinnkvalitet og skinntrukket dashbord. Det høyner premiumfølelsen.

Det står "suedecloth headliner", det betyr semsket tøy taktrekk.  Står ikke "Fake suede"... Men står heller ikke "suede leather"... Så kanskje alcantara. Men semsking er en prosess som jeg tviler på at alcantara eller noe annen skai har vært gjennom, så burde være ekte semsket skinn. Time will show.

Jeg fikk oppgitt 4000, og det står "cost option" i utstyrslisten for HSE for sort taktrekk.  Bør selvfølgelig ikke koste noe for samme stoff i annen farge, så det er vel korrigert da.

Det ble snakket om suedcloth under visningen på Aker Brygge, Gilles Product Manager husket ikke hva det het men prøvde å forklare hva det var. Han forklarte det som et mer miljøvennlig og bærekraftig alternativ til skinn.

Det er et polyester basert stoff som ser ut som semsket skinn. https://www.vocabulary.com/dictionary/suede%20cloth og her http://www.mothering.com/forum/221-diapering/119932-what-suedecloth.html er det beskrevet som

"Suede cloth is a thin polyester fabric that looks & feels like a very low pile velour, like a cross between velour and silk. It's not as 'leathery' feeling as true suede."

Det er tydeligvis et populært stoff i hjemmelagde tøybleier...
