Hello guys,

Again sorry for writing in English but my Norwegian is very poor.

I recently bought a 2016 Tekna 30 kWh LEAF with the 6 kW charger option. And I have been told that the way I can confirm it is equipped with 6 kW charging is on the main display, where you can see 2 indicators: time to full charge with 3 kW and with 6 kW (I hope this information is correct and it is indeed a good way to confirm 6 kW charging capability).

My display indicates 3 and 6 kW charging times, so I assumed I can indeed charge at 6 kW, however I plugged the LEAF the other day to a type 2 charger at Mosseporten shopping center, in Moss, and it provided only 3 kW charging.

Now, I now for a fact that the type 2 charger provides up to 11 kw power because I have used it with my Tesla. But with the leaf, it provided only 3 kW.

Anyone has a clue why I cannot get 6 kW out of the 11kW type 2 charger?

Thanks!

Where did you get your cable, and what kind?
I am pretty sure the 16a cable.
For the full 6kw you MUST have a 32a cable.

The type2 to type1 cable comes in both 16 and 32a..

If the charger is 11kW, that means 3-phases of 16A. The Leaf only utilize 1-phase and will therefore be limited to 3.3kW (16A) on a 11kW charger. If the charger is 22kW, then you can get 6.6kW (32A) (if your cable is 32A).

You need to have the correct cable , ( It exists both 16A and 32A type2 cables) , and of course the charging point has to be able to deliver 32A - 230 volts at "one phase" configuration. Some 11KW charging points can only deliver this type of current with "3-phase" configuration , and in such cases the Nissan Leaf cannot utilize it , as the charger only accepts "one- phase" charging at 230 volts.

I checked the cable and it is the 32A.

I guess it's the charging station, then. I'll have to go for the 22 kW one next time and give it a try. Thanks!

Ore a 7,4 kW spot. ;)
230v32a spots are extremely rare compared to 22kW spots :)

Not anymore, there are loads of then in for example Moss not far from where he tried to charge. But the 1x32A charging posts are usually load balanced so you'll only get 32A if the other outlet is not used by anyone.

This charging map can be useful to find a 32A outlet, but remember that the yellow needle can be 32 or 16A.

That's done by carrying an "Out of Order" sign, which you hang up on the other outlet while you are charging! :D

Yup, try the dedicated 22kW port on the far left at Mosseporten. There you will get the 6kW boost you're looking for. I've tested this with the LeafSpy Pro app and my 32A Type2 cable with my Leaf.
