Since we announced our Canada-wide network of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in February, we’ve seen a lot of excitement and interest from both employees and our customers. We’ve also heard a common question: what amenities or entertainment are you offering customers while they wait for their vehicles to charge, which can take up to 30 minutes.
We now have an answer to that question.
Thanks to your feedback, Petro-Canada will install microgyms at all locations with an EV charger. “When it comes to our stations, getting pumped up now has a few meanings,” says Kris Smith, executive vice president, Downstream. “We’re taking care of autobodies and our customers’ bodies – all at the same place!”
Elliptical machines and stationary bikes will be installed at all EV locations across the country. Not only are they complimentary for our customers, EV owners will actually see a discount to the price for their charge if they choose to get a quick workout in. Through the technology implemented at our stations, we’ve found a way connect the output from the exercise equipment to the charging interface. That means your workout will re-charge you and your car. Depending on your speed and resistance, you might even get the whole charge for free!
“Sustainability is a strong part of our business model, and so is personal well-being – so this makes a lot of sense,” adds Deborah Gullaher, vice president, sales & marketing. “I think our customers are going to be really excited about it. I know I can’t wait for the launch.”
Like the RBC and Petro-Canada employee discount program, Suncor employees can reap additional benefits from this program. If you book your EV charge in advance, you’ll also be given access to an online personal trainer.
Kris says this exclusive benefit will help employees get the most out of the program. “So the better shape you’re in, the further you can go toward what matters most to you.”
