Tittel: Problem with the new Oslo chargers
Skrevet av: minibitionsdag 31. august 2016, klokken 08:17
Hi,

I will write in English but please feel free to answer in Norwegian :)

I am a new member of Norsk elbilforening and I am also a new el-bilist and a Renault Zoe owner.

I can charge without any problem at the Fortum chargers, at Colloseum parking lot, at Alnasenter
parking lot but I do not seem to manage to charge at the chargers at Kongens P-plass Frognerkilen, Oslo (Frognerstranda 4)
Here is the URL: https://m.ladestasjoner.no/charger/NOR_00062

They are of this type:
Bruksanvisning for nye ladepunkt i Oslo
- http://www.ladestasjoner.no/ladehjelpen/praktisk/141-bruksanvisning-nye-oslo-ladepunkt-for-elbil

I use the brikke with RFID I got with my start pack from elbilforeningen.
I am pretty sure I registered it correctly and it should be activated.

When I use the charger, everything looks fine, I get to the point where the upper left icon (the
battery symbol) turns blue as it should.
But after a while I just get an error message in my car saying "Charging impossible, check charging
post for errors".
I tried several chargers at that parking lot with the same result.

So any tips from your side are welcome

Is it that this type of chargers is not compatible with the Zoe?
Is it that my RFID is not registered or enabled properly?

Thanks in advance!

Most likely, you are a victim of the IT/TN power network design flaw from Renault. A Zoe will only charge when connected to a TN-type power network, hence the need for the horrendously expensive Zaptec-charger or a rather heavy (and still not that cheap) transformer when you connect to an IT-type power network.

Hence, to charge from a Type2 charging point on a IT power source you will need to go through some hoops.

1. An adapter from Type2 to Schuko: http://www.elbilhjelpen.no/htm/evse.html#Adaptor_Mode_3_til_mode_1_med_16A_Shuko
2. Hook up a transformer from IT to TN: http://www.ladefabrikken.no/ZOE_lading_overalt_i_Norge/p3060772_14670560.aspx
3. Hook you charging cable between this and the car

There are a few varieties of these, I just picked the first results I found. Renault also provided (the infamous "hyttelader") a combined 10A transformer/charging cable that covers points 2 and 3 in one heavy box.

Thanks for the answer!
That would explain things indeed  :-[

So you are saying that the new Oslo Chargers are not necessarily TN compatible?
I guess it is not possible to know which ones are TN compatible and which ones aren't...  :(

You cannot tell by looking, no. In general, anything from 11kW and upwards should be TN, but I know there has been issues on some of these as well if they are wired a bit wrong.

I think there was an initiative to make a list of which was TN. Try to search in the Zoe sub forum and see if you can find it.

SitatMost likely, you are a victim of the IT/TN power network design flaw from Renault.
It´s not a design flaw, but a safety matter. Design flaws should be addressed to grid owners.

I stand corrected  :). It is a design choice, not a design flaw, but for an electric car in Norway it is a potential nuisance.  ::)

So you are saying that it was the right decision from Renault to design the Zoe it did?

It's a design flaw in the sense that the charging system is not properly isolated from the chassis. Thus you need to make sure that the Neutral has 0V potential towards PE so one doesn't risk getting an electric shock when touching the chassis.
Other EVs have isolated chargers and thus no problems with two phase wires which both have a potential towards PE.
